The Brussels Sprout is a traditional European heirloom vegetable producing compact, nutty-flavored mini cabbages along tall stalks.

Hardy and highly nutritious, it is one of the best cool-season crops, providing fresh harvests well into winter. Its distinctive flavor improves after a light frost, becoming sweeter and more tender.

Why Grow Brussels Sprouts?

This heirloom crop is valued for its nutritional richness and cold-hardiness. Brussels sprouts are high in vitamins C, K, and A, as well as fiber and antioxidants. They store well on the stalk or in cold storage, making them a reliable winter vegetable. Their unique growth habit also adds visual interest to the garden.

Plant & Care

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil under full sun, spacing 45–60 cm apart. Plants grow 70–100 cm tall and require consistent watering. Maturity takes 90–120 days, with sprouts forming gradually up the stalk.

For best results, remove lower leaves as plants mature to encourage larger sprouts.

Harvest & Culinary Uses

Harvest sprouts when firm and about 2.5–4 cm in diameter, starting from the bottom of the stalk upwards. Brussels sprouts can be eaten roasted, sautéed, steamed, or added to soups and gratins. Their nutty, slightly sweet flavor makes them a favorite for both traditional and gourmet cooking.

Grow heirloom Brussels Sprouts for a cold-hardy, nutrient-dense, and flavorful vegetable that thrives in the winter garden.
