Organic marrow seeds produce vigorous plants that yield large, tender fruits commonly used as summer squash. Marrows are popular in cooking for their mild flavor and versatility.
Sowing Method:
Plant seeds on their side, about 1.5 cm (½ inch) deep.
Sow 2-3 seeds per site, 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep, and thin to the strongest seedling.
Planting Out:
Choose a warm, sunny spot with well-prepared soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure.
Space bush varieties at least 90 cm (3 ft) apart; trailing varieties need 1.5 m (5 ft) spacing.
Plant seedlings carefully without disturbing roots and water well.
Growing Conditions
Sunlight: Full sun is essential for healthy growth.
Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruiting. Water at the base to avoid wetting leaves and reduce fungal diseases.
Harvesting
Harvest marrows when the skin is still soft enough to be marked with a thumbnail.
For regular harvests, pick fruits when they are young and tender.
Avoid letting fruits grow too large, as this reduces overall production.
Additional Tips
Provide support or space for trailing varieties to spread.
Mulch around plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
